Maize tabs Marysville superintendent for district

Powersx will replace Craig Elliott who left the district in 2007 aftere more than a decade as Milt Pippenger, a retired Gardenb City superintendent, is in his second year as interim Powers beat out two other finalistx who last week interviewed with the Maize schookl board. In all, more than 20 people applied forthe position. Powers has served as Marysville’s superintendent since 2006 and has previous experience as the executivse director of educational services at the as well as being an elementaryh principal at Lincoln Elementarygin Parsons. He begamn his career as a teachefr inEl Dorado.
Powersa has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from and is currently workingt ona doctorate. “I am very excitedf to begin my dutiesat Maize,” Powerw said in a written statement issued through the Maizer district. “The district has such a greag reputation and a community that is obviouslgy committed to providing a grea educational experience forits students. I look forward to beinbg a part of the Maize team and helpingt make the district even better than it is After narrowing the candidates to three they toured the district and met with school and communithy members in focus groups priord to being interviewed by the boards Tuesdaythrough Thursday.
The schoo board conducted a specialmeeting Friday, during whicy Powers was offered the job. He accepted a two-year contracrt and will be paid $161,350 for his firstr year in Maize.
